And way more aesthetically pleasing. 😊
£5000 Heat Pump Grant

I don't buy this idea that a heat pump will only work in a new build highly insulated property. A heat pump can kick out as much heat as you want. The difference between them and a gas boiler is that the gas boiler uses a cheaper fuel while the heat pump uses electricity (at 4-5 times the price) which is then compensated for by the COP of the heat pump system, which might range between 3 and 5, perhaps fully offsetting the cost differential, perhaps not.
Its because its perhaps more likely that the COP will not fully offset the fuel price increase, that its said that heat pumps will only work in highly insulated properties, What they really mean is that in highly insulated properties the running cost difference will be so small as to be negligible.
In countries that have not traditionally used mains gas for heating, heat pumps are very widely used and thus they are a mature technology. This is because they displace other forms of electric heating.
I still think that gas powered heat pumps (even more efficient than condensing boilers) are the way to go.EDIT But you can't get the £5,000 for a gas heat pump.Last edited by meldrewreborn; 21-07-23 at 19:20.

Heat pumps will work in a barn with hit and miss slatted sides. They just won't work economically or efficiently!Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I DON'T work for or on behalf of EON.Next, but am willing to try and help if I can. Not on mains gas, mobile network or mains drainage. House heated almost entirely by baby dragons. -
I love the idea of painting the radiators black @retrotecchie but I think my landlord may have a different opinion 😂 My little cottage has big thick stone walls like yours and you're right during summer it's cool and while it takes a while to heat in winter once it's warm it traps the heat in, however the bedrooms are in the roof which is modern, so as you can imagine in summer it's like a sauna!
I was chatting with some colleagues about their experiences with heat pumps.
My first colleague really dislikes the heat pump, her property is 100yr old and she feels it isn't efficient for her home, she says her home is now a D energy rating and it is expensive to run. In her experience when the pump freezes up in winter it also draws heat from the house to defrost the pump which obviously isn't ideal!
My other colleague however has a very different experience, she was saying that her house is a brand new build eco house and the heat pump has been the best thing for her as her bills are now 1/3 of what they were in her previous home.
What do you think causes such vast differences in the way they work in different properties, what contributes to how efficiently a heat pump runs?"Green is the prime colour of the world and that from which it's loveliness arises"-Pedro Calderon De La Barca 🌳

Did you know there is a term for his relationship to you? He is your co-parent-in-law. Your son or daughter’s parents-in-law are your Copils 😃I'm an Eon Next dual fuel customer with no particular expertise but have some time on my hands that I am using to try and help out a bit.
