@DiB - when I've signed up for a new Drive tariff just before the old one was due to expire, the old one always ran to completion before the new one started so hopefully this will work for you

Maybe check with EOn customer services to make sure that's the case.

This doesn't look like a good option for me.

I have a 3.8kW solar array (east facing, so not the most efficient) on a FIT contract, and a 13.5 kWh Powerwall. So, I'm probably part of your target audience.

I also have an EV, air-to-air heat pump, and a 40 kWh heat battery.

Total annual consumption is just under 20,000 kWh, of which about 3000 comes from the solar PV

I self-consume around 90% of the solar generation. And the battery means that most of my power is costed at the overnight EV rate.

Against this, the kWh prices shown in the example above are far too high to make sense. Even my heaviest winter bill had an average rate of under 10 p/kWh (pre-vat).

I have ignored the current short term subsidy that reduces my current rate to 3.19 p/kWh. I assume the discount would carry over to a new tariff

It may be that I have misunderstood, but it seems that this tarff is effective only for relatively small battery installations, where the main grid load is still during the daytime.

Please tell me if I've got this wrong. I'm always interested in reducing my bills, and I don't mind being told I've got it totally wrong - it won't be the first time!

@Nigel_EONNext I've been on the Solar Max trial since December and generally I like it. I do find, though, that the app can be frustrating - it's usually slow to start, and frequently buffers as it's accessing new prices and changes to automation. Could it do background refreshes instead? And are the prices listed on a website anywhere? It's useful to check for future low prices to determine when is best to put the washing on or even have a shower!

And I do wonder if the system would work better with a look-ahead of more than twelve hours. I've seen my battery being charged at relatively high prices during an afternoon to avoid that even pricier 4pm-7pm peak when it might have been better to have charged it more overnight, if only the system could see that peak early enough.

So, overall I'm pleased - and would be even more pleased with a few tweaks!

@Nigel_EONNext - Signed up yesterday, not heard anything yet although I note the end page suggested 5 working days.

It's not entirely obvious going through the form what equipment is supported, so we'll see.

@SimonBlake - I wonder if this website would work, since this shows the day-ahead wholesale prices, so presumably EOn's variable pricing would be based on and follow this

@AncientOne - thanks for taking the time to have a read...

Okay - I get it with the FIT side, not always the best win with a tariff like this, and having an EV gives you a great window to charge a battery.

One of my thoughts is, depending on when you signed up to the EV tariff, it can be like apples vs oranges as the then and now rates are really different.

Amazing to read that you are using 90% of your generation - love that, the more of that I see, the better. The first job of solar should always be to stop the pull on the grid!

I would 100% say when it comes to renewal - have another look it could be great or it could be the flow you have in the system and the overnight EV rate is unstoppable.
