My Gas and Electricity bill was £259.00 this month, but I only have a 2 bedroom semi detached house and I am out at work all day with nothing on and live alone. My neighbours bill was half this for Gas and Electricity - she has a 3 bed room semi detached, with extension, 2 kids and is in a lot of the day? My bill was about £80 I knew it would go up but this doesn't seem right? is it because it says estimate and I need to give a reading?

More than likely, yes. If you send regular monthly readings, this will prevent wild guestimates.

prices this winter are twice last winters. Consumption is higher in the winter than the summer. But it comes down to consumption times price in any particular period, and if consumption is estimated then it could be too high or even too low.
I submit a reading each month, because I don’t have smart meters. I pay by fixed direct debit because this is the least expensive. If you are paying after receipt of the bill that is the most expensive method.
check your readings against the bill figures, which will help to confirm the situation.Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. the warmer your home the more heat it loses which then has to be replaced. Turning your heating down when you are out, or tucked up in bed are easy measures to cut consumption.
Not all homes are the same - levels of insulation, window types, appliances, boilers etc will all be different. Not forgetting temperature settings.
