You will need to contact Customer Services. For organising a refund and adjusting a Direct Debit, your best bet is to phone them at 9am when the queues are shortest.

Yes contact customer services, the credit is legally yours. But your fixed DD is a function of forecast consumption and current prices so have facts and figures to hand plus current readings. Prices this winter are twice last years for most people and the peak consumption period is nearly upon us all.Current Eon Next and EDF customer, ex Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless. -
27-11-22@drclarke40 following the advises that @retrotecchie and @meldrewreborn gave you, make sure that once you request a refund, the customer service will ask you for up to date readings and what kind of form you would like the refund to be processed.
If it is more than £500 the refund will be checked by our finance team who will make sure that the money is allocated at the right account and sends the notification to the bank basically. From the request day to when it is approved and sent over, it usually takes around 15 working days (if the amount is £500 or over). Although per policy this can take up to 21 working days in those periods where the business is extremely busy.

I’m sure that is helpful to those looking for refunds. However, while the explanation is logical it is also too lengthy. Suppliers are quick enough to take money from customers but too slow to give it back when properly requested. Because of this overextended refund period, I would recommend customers keeping their credit balances as low as possible. For a customer paying the average £2500 per annum, or £208 per month I suggest the maximum credit balance should be £500. After all this is the customers money. -
Level 127-11-22Why does it take so long to get back my money? If I pay you it doesn't take 21 days for that payment to go through. Sounds like you are keeping my money on your accounts unnecessarily just to earn interest -
28-11-22@meldrewreborn I understand your point of view completely. It is a lengthy process. Although, my comment was based on a the very maximum time that we can take as a business. Our customers do receive their refunds a lot quicker than that. I don't want to set customers expectations as the general process it is what it is but the customer experience can vary for many factors.
