Overcharging??

    Hi all,

I notice on my last bill that the usage correction difference (from estimate to customer supplied) is being charged at the latest (higher) rate although the period is ~ 3 months.
However, for three months, EON have been 'estimating' I would use less than 1 unit.
I would love to discuss this with EON, but no answer to e-mails and after 30 mins I gave up on the phone.
Thought I would give the blog/get involved a try :-)
I did chuckle that EON were asking how best to contact them survey was recently sent out... I think there should have been another boc that said 'any', as long as I can actually get through!

Sorry you've not had any replies yet. I'm a recent addition to the volunteer team and just going round looking for unanswered posts and spotted yours.

So, I'm assuming you put your reading correction in manually, and did this just after the price changes?

As they generate automated bills or corrections to bills from the meter reading you submit, there's no human process involved in trying to attribute particular consumptions to particular periods.

I've had fun and games myself with this, but I always find the best way is to never submit a meter reading to cover a longer time than perhaps a month or two and never go over the boundary of a price change. Whether Eon allow you to submit retrospective readings, as in readings that predate your latest one, I'm not sure, but it may be possible to split your correction over a few months and enter readings one at a time in sequence.

Say I'd been estimated a few months at 10 units a month between August and October, but my actual consumption was 1000. Rather than put a 970 correction in at the start of October and get caught at the higher rate, I would have tried to enter three separate readings of around 320 or so but date each reading August sometime, September sometime and October sometime.

But, I've just checked and the furthest you can backdate a meter reading entry is nine days.

Maybe too late for you now, but worth remembering when it comes to April.

That sounds strange, I take it your actual usage was appreciably higher than the 'estimates' E.ON Next has been making? Now that they have an actual reading to work with it should generate a more realistic estimate of usage distributed across the entire period since the last reading was taken (whether by yourself or a meter reader), but from personal experience, that can take a while to happen. If there is a correction it will show up on a later bill, with the inaccurate charges reversed and then re-billed based on a more realistic estimated pattern of energy usage before and after 1st October.

With any luck one of the E.ON Next team who check this forum will be able to take a look at what's happened for you, as you've had so much difficulty getting through to customer services. In the meantime, if your energy use these past few months is likely to be pretty similar to the same period in previous years, you could check through your old bills to get an idea of how your usage should have been allocated. That'll give you a good idea what your charges should look like when they're (hopefully) re-calculated. Fingers crossed it'll get sorted out quickly for you from here.

    Hey @HeliJon,

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this? Do you have a smart meter by chance, the reason I ask is that if it is smart and we have estimated then we may have lost communication with your meter.

We usually estimate when we don't receive a reading or if we don't have a reading on a tariff change date for example on the Next Flex when the price cap changes or when a fixed tariff comes to an end.
