Eon have sent me a quote for 100% renewable energy. Both my gas and electricity come from the same gas fired power station, that is supplied by gas ships from Norway, then the gas reaches my house through the same Scottish gas network. Can eon tell me how they believe gas (fossil fuel) is the 100% renewable energy that there promising me??

There is no supplier that I know of which claims 100% renewable gas. Only electricity can be renewable.

You're also not buying electricity from that gas fired power station, you're buying it from someone else. If they don't buy it from there, you're not using it.

There is no way that electricity or gas can be delivered to you specifically. The energy companies feed the respective networks with energy that they've generated or bought. So eon would have to have bought gas from renewable sources - then we get into definitions. 93% of the green gas in the UK comes from purpose grown crops. Do you count that as renewable? Do Eon next? I haven't a clue.

To me its all a marketing strategy - appealing to people who are ultra concerned about these issues. Me I just go on price when i can - no choice though at the moment.
