It looks like I have fallen foul of the dreaded read schedule bug. I was migrated from EON to EON Next in June and the smart meter sent several monthly

Fixing the read schedule is one of the fixes Peter can do. It doesn't take him very long if memory serves. :)

Hi Eastminster - I've had a look over your account and can see that your reading schedule has been updated to the 26th - we're working on retrieving readings from your Smart Meter each month. There may be a couple of issues here, the main one being the message you can see currently on your IHD 'Waiting for current data'. We've recognised this issue displayed on the IHD being an indication that the DCC has actually lost the connection to your Smart Meters, I understand the lights on your meter are flashing every 5 seconds which is still a good indication that not all communication has been lost. This means we can keep sending messages but they may not be reaching your meter if the DCC has lost the middleman connection. The fix for this is a firmware update from the DCC - We've sent off a request for this to be done but this can take some time and we don't have a timescale for this unfortunately 😔 For now, please check your account on 27th March to see if a reading appears for the 26th March, if not, we'll continue to send requests to the DCC so that we can retrieve your readings, and get the IHD up and running again. In the meantime, please leave the IHD plugged in and switched on, preferably as close to your electricity meter as possible. Once the DCC has issued the update needed, this will kick in and start showing your usage again. I'm sorry, this is all I can say on this at this moment in time. Pete

I now have a message in my E.ON account online which I have inserted below. There is no mention of my emails and phone calls to them, and certainly no hint of an explanation or an apology. I have been monitoring my consumption closely and am finding the lack of real time information very frustrating.

We’re having trouble getting readings from your smart meter.

To avoid an estimated bill, we’ll let you know when we need your reading. You can get help reading your meter and see why we might not be getting your reading.

Just to let you know that there was no smart meter reading taken on 26th March 2022.

I did notice though that the £ reading on my smart meter, that had been building up to about £42 during the month, went back to £0.00 on 26th March.

Hi Peter,

I have just checked on the smart meter check tool at https://smartmetercheck.citizensadvice.org.uk/ and it has given the following result.

However, it is still not sending my readings to E.ON Next.

Does this help in any way to get my issue sorted?

Hi @Eastminster I'm sorry to hear that this still hasn't been resolved for you yet.

I'm sure the information you've found on the Citizens Advice website is because your Smart Meter is working as it should, we're just having trouble communicating with it.

I can see someone from the Smart Team has been working on your account on 9th May so we should be up and running again with your meter soon, failing that, an engineer visit may be needed to reset the communications hub.

I can see an Energy Specialist is managing a complaint for you on your account, so they should be in touch with you soon.

I'm afraid there isn't an update on this just yet. I can see you have an open complaint being managed on your account in relation to the connection issues, so someone should be in touch with you soon.

It looks like the issue was escalated to a specialist on the Smart Team on 3rd May. We have to allow up to 8 weeks before this can be chased (a pain I know, but we have to I'm afraid)

That 8 week mark will be the 28th June though which is next Tuesday so hopefully 🤞 you'll have heard by then. If for any reason you haven't, pop a reply on here and I'll take it to our metering team myself and give them a bit of a kick 💪
