Can my smart meter be reactivated?
-
Can a smart meter installed by another provider be made to work as a smart meter again? Our meters have blank screens and I have to crawl into an understairs cupboard to press 9 to get a reading. I'm too old to be crawling into cupboards and the other half can't do it because he's even older.

Best AnswerHi,
I think this should be possible. By the sounds of things, you have SMETS1 Secure Liberty meters, I know these well as I help out with them on another forum on a regular basis.
The good news is that this will indeed happen, it just might take a while. Almost all SMETS1 meters are being migrated to DCC via Enrolment & Adoption and the ones you have should be put through that process sooner or later. Once it's done, they will re-activate as long as there's a signal. I'd guess this should be within the next 12 months or so.Just another guy passing by... The unknown tech way...

Hehehe, it's easier once you're used to it. Conveniently, no other meter brand that I know of has ever put a numeric keypad on any of their meters - Secure is the only one that has done so to date. Admittedly, it actually turned out to be a not so genius idea because apparently it's nearly impossible to actually use said keypad, but it kinda works. But what it does do, is allow me to identify them almost instantly.
βββββββIt'll be a lot easier in the future once either:
- All active S1 meters are migrated to DCC via E&A
- All active S1 meter are eventually retired and replaced either via recertification or some other processes - in fact some of the oldest ones are starting to reach the end of their service life anyway
