That is very encouraging and I think I would be able to manage to operate it (compared with the problems I had with Octopus and Scottish Power)!

roy0147 - a couple of quick questions: are you currently with Eon, and are they able to access your meter's
½ hourly data?
Reason for asking is just to make you aware that there are a small number of customers who, when transferring to EOn find that they (eon) can't access the meter. I don't want to worry you but thought it was only fair to mention this, as it has only come to light recently but I don't know how widespread it is.
- Only one supplier is able to access the meter
- The change of supplier process (CoS) should happen seamlessly, with transfer from old to new in a day or so
- Eon need to put you briefly on Next Flex whilst they check they can read the meter before moving you to the Drive tariff
Unfortunately reports are now appearing that some customers (hopefully only a small minority) are finding that their meters can't be switched to the new supplier, with no timescale for a fix 😮.
The reasons seem to be due to an Ofgem mandated change last autumn to something called Market Wide Half-hourly Settlement (MHHS), which is being handled by the central smart meter organisation (DCC), Elexon who maintain the Smart Data Repository and various other parties.
- Smart meter (MPAN) details had to be migrated to the new system
- Some MPANs appear to have been incorrectly transferred, or have other technical problems
- This prevents the CoS from working correctly, so the new supplier can't see the meter
- Unfortunately this only comes to light after the CoS process, so presumably the meter is still registered to the old supplier
- The fix to this however is totally out of Eon's control (as the new supplier) - they can only chase the DCC for resolution, but this seems to have an indefinite timescale to get the fix sorted
It is hopefully only a small number of customers experiencing this deadlock, since I guess the internet would be reporting a lot of failed CoS if it was more widespread. However it is certainly an issue for some, as detailed in this active thread
