Just found this nugget of information - I wonder if there'll be any change in function, or just more bureaucracy.

    1. Smart DCC Ltd (a subsidiary of Capita) was awarded the Smart Meter Communication Licence by the UK government (specifically the Department of Energy and Climate Change - DECC) in 2013 for a 12-year term.
    2. Successor Licensee (2026/2027): In February 2026, Ofgem announced that a new licensee, DCC2 Ltd (a subsidiary of the Smart Energy Code Company - SECCo), was selected to take over the role starting in March 2026, with a full handover of operations planned for November 2026, following a new competitive tender process.
    3. In 2026, SECCo set up DCC2 Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary, to act as the new Licensee for the Smart Meter Communication Licence (SMCL).
This seems to be who the SECCo are https://smartenergycodecompany.co.uk/about-us/

Thanks for this. There is this from OFGEM:

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/decision/smart-meter-communication-licensee-decision#:~:text=The%20Successful%20Applicant%20is %20DCC2%20Ltd%2C%20a,be%20the%20not%2Dfor%20profit %20purpose%20driven%20organisation

while there will be a new licensee, I would expect many of the staff involved will transfer under TUPE and may even operate from the same premises. We as customers are reliant upon the DCC for the transmission of our data but have no means of access to them nor is there any contractual relationship. Hopefully the switchover goes fine - if it doesn’t the fallout could be substantial.

also - “Ofgem’s decision relates to the overseeing of the Data Communications Company (DCC), it does not change DCC’s role in operating the digital communications infrastructure underpinning the national smart meter network.”

Current Eon Next customer, ex EDF, Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and think the smart meter programme is a waste of our money. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

So just when we'd got the hang of where our smart data went, and that it wasn't for sale on the dark web to burglers.com, they'll change who it will go to. Now presumably the due diligence was done by the same government duffers who'd give medical records to Palantir and that mob for whom there is no evidence at all that they assassinated Kenedy. So please could someone else do some other due diligence to chase up such things as :

    i) will the old DCC be selling off old hard disc drives or records when the new DCC2 start ?
ii) do the new DCC2 have written procedures in place so that we can be confident that they won't ever sell off our personal data or inadvertantly sell scrap containing it ?
iii) are there any ways for a nasty evesdropper to message to DCC2 saying that they are entitled to look at my data as used to go to the old DCC ?
iv) are there any other information leak risks, including ones so sneaky that I hadn't thought of that, by which a snoop for a burgler could find out that I'm out of the house?
    v) are there renewables and smart street groupings which users could opt in to, for cheaper local electricity while the sun shines ?

@wizzo227 - looks like Capita have extended their license for two years to run the physical DCC infrastructure
the DCC continue to operate the platform supporting the UK’s smart meter roll-out until September 2027
    https://www.capita.com/news-and-insi...cence-contract

I'm sure there will be no actual physical changes to the DCC infrastructure itself and probably the staff running it will remain, but the company managing the infrastructure may change

Other reports state that >>> the Smart DCC contract, which supports a national smart meter network, will transition to a not-for-profit provider in the upcoming year.

snfff. snff? anyone think that this might smell of asset-stripping ? Same DCC data, possibly or not in the same place, possibly or not three levels beyond the watch of the same admin staff, but a change of holding company. That resembles a way of either dumping debt at old_holding_company.ltd or dumping huge bonuses at old_holding_company.ltd and huge new debt at new_holding_company.ltd. With water companies, new_holding_company.ltd tells shareholders that this is ok because now they own a golden goose of millions of future bills which increase. My water bill three years ago was £62 and the last one was £152. Therefore I distrust any involvement whatsoever of holding companies above household utilities such as DCC.
