Searching the Community site and Tags

Not sure if this is the right place to post about forum help, but I've been using and posting on the Community forum for a while now and I'm puzzled how to search and to find my posts. Navigation is not the most obvious. I figured out that the lists of threads are in the main Community page under four window headings and that the list of threads for EV's is in the Sustainable future heading, and I can then scroll through the list to find my posts, but the list does not seem be in date order, most recent reply order, or any other logical order and is sometimes several pages long. I can't see any option for re-ordering this. I have found the setting to re-order replies to my own threads, but that doesn't change the order of the threads list.

I get notifications when others reply, which enables me to open my thread directly and I've figured out that when I post a new thread I can add tags, which I just forgot to do on this new post! But I can't see how to add tags to my existing topics and the My Tags list is blank. How can I add to My Tags, or find my posts easily?

PS, just found some information about tags lurking deep down in Settings, although it does't answer all my above questions. But haven't yet located FAQ's, which the settings link directs to, although I think I found FAQ's somewhere in how to use the Forum or another thread earlier. Maybe a Community flag of FAQ's and using the Forum would help?

@MikeJM - Yep - it's pretty poor forum software - not very intuitive: doesn't order posts by date so they're difficult to find etc

To search for your own (or anyone elses') posts, click on the "name" link on any thread which will give <View Forum Posts>
    • for another user need to click the 3-dots on the right to bring up the other user's posts link
      • NB this only works in landscape mode on mobile devices, as the forum isn't properly configured for mobile

Or click your Avatar, then the 3-dots next to <Edit profile> and it should bring up <find latest posts>

@geoffers - ah, of course. Why didn't I think of that? Comes of being born at the dawn of the computer age I guess... That's most helpful. Any clues about populating the My Tags tab?

Thank you for this valuable feedback, @MikeJM It's very helpful to understand how our members are experiencing and navigating the forum. 😊

I will investigate the 'Tags' feature to see how it appears for our members. I'll also bring up this excellent suggestion internally for review, as we are always looking for ways to improve the forum. An FAQ page sounds like a fantastic idea.

A great tool I use on the forum is the Search Function , this feature has some great ways to 'key search', you can try to enter key words and select 'exact keywords' to find a list of threads with inclusion of those exact words.

Similarly you can search by User Name and 'Exact name' to find all the threads posted by that member.

Also there is a 'Tag' section if you are looking to search all threads that include a certain tag!

Can you get rid of the restriction on short key words. No one's going to try to search for "and" or "the" for instance, but it does mean that you're unable to search for relevant three letter acronyms etc.

For example you might be trying find threads relating to VAT but it comes up saying
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search:

@geoffers, @HelenaP_EONNext. Now another problem. I'm having difficulty placing photo attachments in any sensible place. I see you've just posted 3 screenshots in sequential vertical order with text in between on the EV board. I've only managed to attach 3 screenshots side by side at the end of the text. In addition, they don't appear in preview, so I had to submit one, see where it was, edit and add another etc. Rather frustrating. Since you've been able to put them in a sensible order there must be something I've missed. I think I've positioned my cursor where I want the attachment before clicking the paperclip. I see Manage Attachments in the additional options, but that only opens the same screen as the paperclip..

@MikeJM - unfortunately the forum isn't configured to work properly with mobile devices.

It's a PC based forum so works well on a PC screen in landscape mode.

In (mobile) portrait view the forum editing tools don't appear...

however if you turn your phone on it's side the editing tools appear so you can click on the image icon to choose your image which is positioned where the cursor is

@geoffers, I'm using a MacBook, just tried the image symbol, that's the solution. Many thanks @Geoffers.

@HelenaP_EONNext - another feature which doesn't seem to have been implemented correctly is subscribed threads (or maybe I just haven't found them)

The forum offers the option to subscribe to a particular thread, if you want to refer back to it in the future

And then gives you the option to save to a "subscribed threads" folder

But I haven't yet found any way of accessing this folder to see the threads you've subscribed to

    Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough 🤣 - but I don't think it's been implemented

<edit> Actually I've just found this link (embedded in the depths of my account settings page) which does actually take you to the subscribed folder

The link is actually <community.eonnext.com/subscription.php> which temporarily adds the details to your bottom of your "My Details" account settings, but isn't there by default - it only gets displayed via that link
    ...
The subscribed threads are listed here as expected, but the link to that folder doesn't seem to be present anywhere else within the forum🤬
