Latest tariffs show significant reductions - from April 1st, due to the energy price cap change presumably. Next Drive Fixed V17 off-peak 5.99p/kWh, Next Drive Smart off-peak 4.99p/kWh. Big reductions! I've just switched to lock it in due to the oil market crisis.

When was your previous fix due to end?
What was it going to drop to?

I hastily switched to v17 yesterday but once I worked out the implications switched back to my previous one.
Hoping some normality returns before Autumn…

@rwh202, Yes, Was caught out by the 2 weeks of pre-April rate, which is not stated in the quote details, as mentioned elsewhere, I've just discovered. My Next Drive Fixed tariff ended early June. But for the sake of 2 weeks costing a fiver or so more, I have decided to live with it. There is nothing to say that oil prices won't balloon again in the next 2 weeks, another couple of tankers sunk etc, and it's always possible that E.On will change the base prices again on 1 April. For me the certainty now of a year's fixed low prices is worth it. I also had a problem of communication with my Tesla when changing to Next Drive Smart, which is now sorted out and I wanted to ensure that it worked. If you haven't changed yet, probably worth doing just before April 1st.

@rwh202 to answer your question about the price drop, my previous Next Drive Fixed V7 was 6.7p off-peak and 28.9p on-peak and 48p daily charge. The Next Drive Smart from 1 April is 4.99p off-peak, 27.9p on-peak and 60p daily. Next Drive Fixed looks to be about 1p more on each rate. So a good reduction of off-peak over V7, even with the Fixed tariff. I also have a Powerwall and solar panels and use virtually no on-peak (27kWh last 12 months vs 8000kWh off-peak) so the peak rate is not really relevant to me. Given that the off-peak period has dropped from 7 hours to 6 hours, I'm likely to use a little more on-peak, the Powerwall does run out very occasionally in the winter. But my net saving in the next 12 moths should be about £75. I was fully expecting to have to pay £100-200 more this year!

But if v7 drops to say 3p offpeak on 1st April, wouldn’t that be better? 7 hours at 3p beats 6 hours 5p… Don’t know how long you had left on v7 though.

@rwh202, I had two and a half months left on Fixed V7. Well, if there really will be a 3p drop to 4.6p, compared to 5.99p for Fixed V17 for that time and one could guarantee that 5.99p with Fixed V17 doesn't change, maybe. Changing to Smart at 4.99p, marginal. The energy price cap doesn't apply to fixed tariffs so I can't figure out how and why the fixed tariffs are changing. But it's a question of forecasting the future! If I had to top up my heating oil tank at the moment I'd be paying at least £1.25/litre compared to less than 60p last summer- if I could even get a delivery. I'll be pleasantly surprised if the current electricity EV tariff prices don't go up by June. It's a gamble really. My preference is to lock in a good price for a year now, given the international situation.

Looking at historical EV Fixed tariffs compared to variable tariffs, for the last 12 months or so, the E.On variable tariffs changed very frequently compared to the EV tariffs. But there have been more frequent EV tariff changes recently. It will be interesting to see what happens!

@rwh202 OK, if it was a drop TO 3p rather than a drop OF 3p that makes it more difficult to decide - but is 3p really likely? If you'r still on V7 let is know on. 1st April!

Yep, I reckon E.On are still scrambling around trying to work out the new prices for their 100s (maybe 1000s?) of tariffs. Octopus are emailing out their customers today and lowest I've seen is 3.49p for some on older IOG fixes.
I'm on v8, so currently 6.7p - expecting a 3.5p drop to 3.2p but I'll let you know on April 1st...

Thanks @WizzyWigg, I've got a Good News - your energy bill will be discounted message but no mention of how much - which I think I already know since the quote was from April 1st. It may depend on the tariff or when you started it. What tariff are you on and for how many months?
