Hi I know the max amount I can have on my prepayment meter is £255 will this be the same for my key as well so I can have £510 in total between them both at one time?

Your electricity meter can hold up to a total of £255, as can your electricity key. This means at any one time you can have a maximum of £510 on your meter. If you are thinking of doing this to beat the April price rises, then don't. It won't work. The next time you top up after April 1st, the key will update your meter tariffs, and then the meter will back bill you for any difference in rates at the tariff change point.

It used to be a favourite trick, and even Martin Lewis used to suggest this trick, but the energy companies got wise to it. A couple of pence a unit, not such a big deal, but with prices nearly five times what they were two years ago, they can no longer take the hit.
Now interest rates have gone up again, better just to top up what you need and whack the rest in a savings account.Last edited by retrotecchie; 05-01-23 at 16:16.
