Battery Storage and optimisers

    Hi
I've been speaking with an installer about getting GivEnergy batteries fitted to make better use of my summer generation and I understand that this will have no affect on my generation FiT, although having a Smart Meter fitted at the same time will mean that I move to metered export rather than the assumed 50% export. He has recommended some optimisers as I have winter shading on the lower row of panels and has assured me that this will not have any affect on my FiT either.
I'm on the original 25 year Tariff which is very generous and obviously don't want to do anything to interfere with that.
Could someone from EON confirm that neither the batteries nor the optimisers will cause a problem please?
    Thanks very much.

    Hiya!

This is probably a good one for @GraemeD_EONNext if I can get his attention. I'm not very experienced with FiT stuff but Graeme definitely is!

The clue is in there handles. The eon staff have eon next in their handles, the rest don’t . The volunteers on here are very knowledgable and on FIT there are some experienced users. Seen it, done it, got the T shirt.
Current Eon Next and EDF customer, ex Zog and Symbio. Don't think dual fuel saves money and don't like smart meters. Chronologically Gifted. If I offend let me know by private message, but I’ll continue to express my opinions nonetheless.

Can I ask something further and quite basic please? I'm new to this forum - do employees of EON answer queries on here or are we all just bods talking to each other? If EON employees do work on this forum, is there a way if getting a question directly to them?
Sorry to ask such a dumb question but wanting to be sure that any answers obtained are definitive and not 'just' a bods opinion.
    Thanks very much

    Thanks 'Victor' ;)

So how do I steer this to get a response from an EON person or does it magically happen when they happen to see the question?

    Hi @SamsDad

    Morning @SamsDad 😊
Do you mind just explaining a little further what you are worried about?
    - Having a battery will have an impact on your energy costs (both how much you get back, and how much you spend).

When installing a battery you will:
    1. use your solar pannels in the time discussed (e.g. 10-15:00) in this time you would have also filled the battery
    2. rather than using energy from the grid, you would then go on to use the energy in your battery (therefore paying less to the grid to use any energy)
    - BUT you would also not have sent as much back to the grid, as you have it in your battery. (So less payments for your energy from the grid).

In this situation, optimisers will only improve your solar output.

If you want to speak to a specialist in this area contact the FIT / SEG team on 0808 501 5218, hours are 9 to 4pm on Thurs/Fri and 9 to 5pm Mon to Weds, but I hope I have helped explain things for you 😊

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I am aware that there are limited changes that can be made to an existing PV system when a FiT is being received and I guess what I am really after is confirmation from EON that batteries and optimisers will not affect my FiT. Optimisers will increase my energy production and therefore the FiT payments I receive. I need to be certain that this will not be used as a reason to claim I am breaking the terms of my FiT agreement.
Hope this clarifies. Sorry to sound cynical but I am only too aware how good the FiT scheme for us early adopters is.
    Thanks very much.

It probably won't. Your batteries will also be connected to the grid so the power that you generate during the day will charge the batteries and then the batteries will leak that energy into the grid over night. Obviously, you will still get paid the same tiny amount that you normally get paid. The only difference is that the power will be going from solar panels to batteries to grid rather than solar panels to grid.

@Han_EONNext i am on the feed in tariff have been for 8 years I understand that installation of batteries in no way effects the feed in tariff payment currently received
The same MCS approved installer who installed my solar panels will be doing my battery installation
