IHD's

@Beki As a very old adopter of the steam powered first generation E.On SMETS1 meter I think that I would prefer to hold out and eventually go down the SMETS2 upgrade path.

@brisinger You can pop one of the Energy Specialists a message on Facebook/Twitter and ask them to register your interest in a SMETS2 upgrade. 😊

Just as a heads up to anyone reading this.

Please be aware that SMETS1 IHDs will NOT work at all with SMETS2 Smart Meters - this is by design. Likewise, a SMETS2 IHD will not work with SMETS1 Smart Meters. The only exception is for a dual compatible IHD such as the Chameleon IHD6-CAD-PPMID-S1 which is capable of working with both types - but these are pretty rare and not given out very often by any supplier. As such, you'll need a new IHD if you upgrade the meters and the old one will cease to function completely after the Meter Exchange is done. You can usually get the first IHD from the engineer during the install appointment and you can recycle the old one at basically anywhere that takes in electronics for recycling.

    Hi there,
    first some background:
    • I was an Utility Warehouse customer who installed my new smart meters and the IHD display
    • The elec smart meter is a SKU1 cellular Aclara Toshiba model
    • The gas smart meter is a Uniflow model
    • I moved from UW to Igloo
    • Igloo went into administration and I was moved into EON NEXT
    • The IHD unit was working well (with UW at least) and sending data for billing was fine

After the switch to EON Next this happened:
    1. Gas readings are on the unit are gone, I also followed the advice on the tutorial to restart the unit near the meter but did not fix the problem. It basically displays 0.00 kWh
    2. Elec readings are reported on the display
    3. Neither the elec readings nor the gas readings (which in my case are nill) are being automatically reported in my account, so I have to take them manually
    4. Credit tariff per kWh is wrong and does not match my tariff plan on Eon (I don't see a way to change that from the screen)
    5. Supplier: it still says Welcome to UW

Please let me know how to solve those problems.
I don't see the point to have a smart meter if is not working.
    Cheers.

    Howdy!

I'm a wandering forum volunteer who travels across many places. Just so that you're aware, I don't work for anyone so I don't have access to your account. But I can give advice that might help.

Just to check, this is what I think you've got, does it sound right?

    • Comms Hub: SMETS2 - Toshiba SKU1 Cellular
    • Smart Electric Meter: SMETS2 - Aclara SGM1411-B
    • Smart Gas Meter: SMETS2 - Flonidan UniFlo G4SZV-2
    • IHD: SMETS2 - Chameleon IHD3-CAD-PPMID (SMETS2 version)

Please feel free to correct me if anything is wrong. It's based on what you've described and what I know Utility Warehouse to have installed for other people. I know this equipment well, since I have a similar setup myself (albeit with two Chameleon IHD6).

Chances are your site is still migrating to E.On and this can take up to six weeks from the switch date under normal circumstances. However, due to SoLR this might take a bit longer in your case. From what you've said, it sounds to me as if your site is healthy and it's probably just a case of waiting for your meters to reconnect. Once that's done, your smart meter readings should resume. The tariff rates can be fixed with the SMETS Command Update Tariff Configuration and the Supplier Name with the SMETS Command Update Supplier Name, which will force the correct details to be pulled down across your entire Home Area Network including the meters and your IHD. The commands can only be issued by the supplier, but you might be able to ask for them to be prepared in advance - it should be automated however if memory serves!

If you don't still don't get any luck, feel free to contact customer service to ask for this to be investigated. Hopefully this can be sorted out eventually.

I have tried everything and it's still not working and I cannot send a meter reading

So am I interpreting it correctly that a new IHD will be supplied?
My current IHD is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

I think that I finally located my version...

That website seems to have a dead TLS Certificate and Bitdefender is blocking it. But I think I know which one you mean.

https://chameleontechnology.co.uk/so...home-displays/ is the official website for Chameleon Technology. It's not always possible to get a new IHD if you already have one, but if it's faulty then yep. Replacing it is one of the resolutions - but it's generally a last resort one after everything else fails.

Thanks for the feedback, yes you are right it was installed by UW. I Joined EON on 5 October so it's more than 6 weeks right? Not sure if I should escalate or wait longer?

Whoops, looks like I missed this, sorry!

Personally, I'd escalate it because it's definitely been more than six weeks at this point. Given that I know SMETS2 installs are never attempted if there's literally no chance of getting a signal, I'm highly confident that your meters should be able to ping the Telefonica WAN and reach DCC just fine. I'm wondering if there's just been a delay in UW releasing control of the meters, but alas I don't have access to any system that lets me interrogate a Smart Meter to retrieve the status... Let alone even locate your meters! Such is the life of a forum volunteer - and it's something that Blastoise186 has told me about many times.
